What is ecoLAST?
ecoLAST is a revolutionary new heavy-duty lube filter technology made by WIX Filters that has proven to double oil life by not only capturing the traditional dirt, soot and wear metal contaminants, but also entrapping and retaining strong and weak acids without the use of additives.
How does ecoLAST work?
ecoLAST captures soot and dirt like a traditional heavy-duty filter. However, it maintains viscosity and oxidation with a unique and peerless design. Its patented cellulose/polyester media has been specially treated to sequester the acids in the oil, keeping the additives in the oil package fresh.
What are the benefits of ecoLAST oil filters?
- Double the oil drain interval (based on fleet-specific oil analysis data)
- Slow total base number (TBN) depletion rate
- Slow total acid number (TAN) rate of increase
- Deliver measured improvements to:
- ZnDDP (anti-wear/anti-oxidant additive) life
- Oxidation
- Rubbing wear
- Cause no adverse impact on:
- Viscosity
- Corrosive wear
- Maintain structural integrity of the filter throughout its life
- Reduce downtime
- Assist in Green Fleet Certification
- Keep the additives package fresh
- Install with ease (direct replacement filter)
- Reduce emissions
- Save your fleet up to $200 per vehicle, per year
What applications will ecoLAST be available for?
WIX plans to make ecoLAST available for heavy-duty over-the-road applications. The first filters include the following part numbers/applications:
- 57745: Cummins ISX (February 2011)
- 51748: Cummins M11 (March 2011)
- 51791: Mack MP8 (March 2011)
- 51971: Detroit DD60 (March 2011)
- 51792: CAT C13&15 (April 2011)
How will ecoLAST be made available?
ecoLAST oil filters will be sold through WIX's traditional distribution channels.
What lubricants and fuel sources are safe to use with ecoLAST?
WIX ecoLAST oil filters are compatible with all lubricants and fuel sources. They have proven effective with conventional and synthetic lubes, and work with biodiesel, LPG, gasoline and diesel fuels.
Are there any environmental concerns with using ecoLAST?
WIX ecoLAST filters have no harmful environmental side effects. In fact, by doubling the oil change interval on every vehicle in a fleet, ecoLAST filters are a green technology that has the potential to save billions of barrels of oil and keep millions of oil filters out of landfills every year.
Will WIX guarantee ecoLAST filters' performance?
While oil change intervals in testing were commonly doubled or more, fleets will need to conduct their own oil analysis to determine the oil change interval for their fleet based on engine type and driving conditions.
What will the ecoLAST warranty cover?
The warranty will provide the same protections as WIX's traditional warranty; the warranty will require fleets to participate in an oil analysis program.
What engine system changes will fleets need to implement to utilize the benefits of ecoLAST?
WIX's ecoLAST oil filters are a direct replacement with no changes or costly modification required to the vehicle. Simply install it and immediately begin reaping the economical and environmental benefits. Fleets should conduct an oil analysis program when switching to ecoLAST in order to maximize oil change intervals.
What determines oil drain intervals?
Oil drain extensions occur through an engine validation process. There's no one-size-fits-all oil drain interval. Each application has a unique and appropriate oil drain interval, which means the point in time or miles that the oil and filter should be changed.
Many things contribute to oil life and can impact oil drain intervals, including the type and amount of oil used, the engine design, condition and duty cycle, as well as fuel type and fuel consumption.
How much money can a fleet save by switching to ecoLAST oil filters?
Typical fleets, which average four oil changes per vehicle per year, can save approximately $100–$200 per vehicle annually using ecoLAST filters when compared to oil changes using standard oil filters. A mega-fleet with 9,000 vehicles using ecoLAST oil filters can realize a potential annual savings of approximately $1,150,000 by eliminating the need for 5,400 barrels or 226,800 gallons of oil, 18,000 oil filters and approximately 9,000 man hours.
Does ecoLAST make economic sense for smaller fleets and owner/operators?
Yes. Fleets of all sizes can save time and money be shifting to ecoLAST filters. We estimate that the average fleet can save $100–$200 per vehicle annually by shifting from standard oil filters to ecoLAST oil filters.
How have ecoLAST filters been tested?
- R&D Testing
Validated at MIT's Sloan Auto Lab within Industrial Consortium, a Lister Petter TR1 single-cylinder diesel generator set oil drain was extended from 300 to 750 hours. - Over-the-Road Testing
ecoLAST filters have been put through more than 1.7 million test miles during a 13-month time period with Cummins ISX-equipped vehicles with CJ-4 and mixed-use oils. Extended oil drain intervals during these tests showed an average increase from 23,000 to 54,000 miles. - Off-Road Testing
In a large front loader, ecoLAST extended the oil drain in a 6-cylinder 12.5 liter diesel engine from 500 to 1,000 hours. - Small-Engine Testing
In a twin-cylinder engine dynamometer with LPG fuel, ecoLAST extended the oil drain from 150 to 300 hours. And, in a 4-cylinder 2.2 liter Kubota diesel engine used on a refrigeration unit on a semitrailer, ecoLAST extended the oil drain from 3,000 to 7,077 hours.
